Sorry to say it but I am about to give up on BP

Sorry guys but here is a rage attack…….

I am just fed up to the back teeth of my messages not showing in my inbox.  Other people on my site get theirs but I cant even see them in my inbox, and if I go to read one from an email, or try to read the one that I CAN see, i get blank pages.

My site activity in my profile is STILL showing gobbledygook and I am on the latest trunk version (at present thats 547.

So I am about to give up completely and just use MU as MU

There are about 50 damn places to put queries and problems and the only one I seem to get answered on where I can find it again easily is here.  In the ticket section, when I go to see my tickets it says I havent got any… YES I HAVE!! I always let the coders know immediately I have an issue.  I havent got the time to keep clicking on a group toi read what may, or may not be there waiting.  My tickets say I have no tickets, and so I am plastering it here and I am sorry but WHY CANT I SEE MY SITE ACTIVITY and WHY CANT I READ MY MESSAGES

I KNOW its hard and I know its building up and I know it will be great but I really needed to vent.

To anyone new reading this. BP is basically fantastic and it is being built up really quickly and with remarkable skill… Its just mine that seems to zonk out and noone can tell me why, so dont blame BP itself.

Another cool widget for home page would be….

A FEATURED BLOG widget that would show a snapshot of the blog in question and pulling in their description.

It would need to be admin enabled and administered as we all know that the community will become full of blogs that arent used.  We dont want empty blogs featured, but it would be a great tool….

Getting to blogs

Its impossible for an author on a blog, that isnt their blog, to find it.

I have two people as authors on my tutorial sites and neither can actually find the blog LOL

We need a way that, if you are a specified subscriber, author, editor etc on ANY blog, you can find a link for it.

#539 problems so far

I still have no messaging on my site. Blank page if I try and read my messages.
I can send them though it seems. I dont think they will be read though LOL

Random member still shows To enable the member directory you must drop the “plugin-template.php and plugin-sidebar.php” files into your theme directory. But I take it that will change in later versions.

Looking for categories..

I was looking for where people visiting my site would find my blog amongst others…

If however, I have loads of new blogs on there at some point… I couldnt show a long list of blogs…
New members soon vanish off the page and again, if I have loads then the list would be endless…
BUT
How about categories we could make?

When someone makes a new blog they have to say which category their new blog fits into…

Then this appears on a category page under chosen category….

Then when people want to search for a blog, they find the category then see all the blogs that fit with what they are looking for…

For instance

I have two metaphorical blogs – One about music and one about art… :) see? Does anyone agree?

The reason it works for me is that I am running an art site with set categories.. I could then programme these in admin… bit like Aardvarks TopSites… sort of thing… ish

Group creation error – Strange Compose message error

Groups creation

I made a group, popped up the avatar (different site lol) and did all the bits and it told me there was an error with my set up, but there isnt, the group is on fine.

Still no avatars and no reasons

I STILL have no avatars…

It still does the same thing in Firefox AND IE in that it will not show anything…for anyone.

It says it is successful and, as per the image I put ion my last post to the development email,

you can see it thinks the image is there and that it is cropping something, but there is nothing there.

It then says (if you go along for the ride and click all the crop and save buttons) that its been successful and is now up.

It isn’t up, theres nothing there!!

I have tried CHMODding, I have tried ALL sizes, the avatars don’t work………..

If anyone wants to come over and have a go please feel free!

If I right click and view the image, or what should be the image, I get this URL

Notice the TWO lines between files and 2008, shouldn’t there be only one?

I don’t know if it lets new people put an avatar up now but it hasnt been.

I have been asking for help about this for ages now but I think I may as well just give up.

Front page now stable it seems :) just need groups working

YES! The front page appears to remain stable now with this new upgrade.  Much better and quite pretty looking.  Easy for people to get around….

* Groups wire not working as stated in last post.. no idea why.

I have some people on it now testing so hopefully will be able to suss out why the group wire doesnt work when the rest does.  I think the groups part is just the weakest link at present.  I am sure they will work in the end. 

Forums are definitely looked forward to OR a way of showing ALL wires when they work properly. 

Search is needed on the front page to be able to search sitewide.  ie someone wants to find a member they can from the front page.  At present my search widget didnt find anyone LOL

Site wide newsletter ability would be excellent addition.

Gallery is a must, especially for my site as it is for people in the arts… OR using the nexGEN plugin, a way to show a slideshow or section of latest images uploaded to that from sitewide.

These are just some of the things I have thought about at the moment… will add more as I find them or think of them.

The ticket system and wires system here is too confusing for newbies to get help on.  It would be ultra cool to have a help ticket system IN their profile section that is linked to main admin somewhere…..
